Women’s and Girls Rugby arrives in Lambeth

lambethrugby-Final1024_1

As a part of an ongoing commitment to increase rugby activity in South London, Surrey Rugby and its partners are launching a weekly women's and girls' rugby programme based in Archbishops Park, Carlisle Road, London, SE1 7LE.

It is the latest project forming a part of an ambitious partnership between Surrey Rugby, Lambeth Council and GLL fully supported by the Rugby Football Union to grow both rugby participation and facilities. The sessions will take place every Sunday between 2 and 4pm and will be split into girls and women's sessions. All abilities are welcome and beginners will be given support by a group of talented professional coaches who have been especially recruited for the project. All that participants need are a pair of training shoes and the sessions will take place on the new artificial grass pitches at the venue following significant investment.

The Lambeth Rugby Partnership is already delivering O2 Touch rugby at the same venue on a Wednesday evening and is introducing rugby to a number of local schools as well as working with The Black Prince Trust and its partners in Kennington. In coming week's further touch rugby activity will be starting in Ruskin Park, Brixton. Lambeth has a population of 330,000 people with no permanent rugby clubs or facilities. Rugby's core values: Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship are key elements in not only developing sports participation and healthy lifestyles but are seen as a key driver in developing community integration and social cohesion.
