Surrey Rugby is responsible for the Promotion, Development and Organisation of Rugby in the County of Surrey and the 7 London Boroughs of Croydon, Kingston, Lambeth, Merton, Richmond, Sutton and Wandsworth. There are approximately 100 clubs within this area.

The Mission of Surrey Rugby is:

To help all Clubs in Surrey to prosper and thrive

To do this Surrey Rugby is organised to carry out a variety of activities. These are summarised on this page with a link to more detailed descriptions of the individual areas.

Club Development

This part of the organisation concerns those aspects of a Club which are "off-the-field". We look at recruitment and retention of Club Volunteers and Volunteer Development and Recognition. We offer guidance on Club Organisation and Management, Governance and the important issues of Safeguarding and Club Accreditation. We can help with Facilities improvement, and point to sources of funding. We help to forge links with Schools, Colleges and Universities to help recruit and retain players. Go to Club Development to find out more.

Game Development

Here we are concerned with "on-the-field" aspects. There are programmes aimed at recruiting, training and developing Coaches, Referees and Medical staff, and also a major concentration on the development of Rugby for Women and Girls. Click on Game Development to see how you might get involved.

Surrey Rugby runs a wide variety of Senior Competitions for Clubs. Complementing the league competitions arranged by the RFU, Surrey operates a very successful Reserve Leagues structure suitable for 2nd, and lower teams, and also for that small number of 1st XVs that are not yet strong enough to compete in the RFU leagues. Then there are the 4 Cup competitions for Clubs at various levels of ability, and the annual 7-a-side festival held in July each year. You can see more about all Competitions here.

Mini Rugby

Many Clubs in Surrey operate Mini rugby sections for participants aged Under 13. Surrey encourages Clubs to become involved in this important aspect of the Game. It is an important recruiting ground for senior players of the future. Thousands of young boys and girls enjoy this form of the Game. Surrey is here to develop this and to arrange annual festivals to celebrate participation. Discover more about Mini Rugby.

Junior Rugby

Players from 13 to Under 18 years of age engage in this area of the Game both in Clubs and at School. Surrey helps with nurturing their energy by organising a comprehensive league programme for both Clubs and for Schools. All the details can be found at Junior Rugby.

Player Development

player development

To provide opportunities for players and coaches to further development their personal skills, beyond the confines of their Club or School, Surrey runs development programmes for men, women boys and girls from age U13 to Senior. The aim is that those who participate should return to their Club or School with a greater capability to contribute to the progress of their home base. How this all works is set out under Player Development.

Surrey Rugby has a role to play in the regulation of the Game, whether it be a matter of Discipline, Code of Conduct, Safeguarding or simply understanding the RFU Regulations or Laws of the Game. More details about this less exciting, but vital part of the Game will be found on the, Regulation page.

Surrey Management
