COTTENHAM RENEGADES from Cambridge win the ‘SMALLEST RUGBY CLUB WORLD CUP 2015’.
Whilst the biggest teams in the world battled it out for the RUGBY WORLD CUP the ‘SMALLEST RUGBY CLUB WORLD CUP 2015’ was held n Tolworth – just a drop kick away from its larger Twickenham neighbours.
The international competition was open to one team, amateur, grass roots rugby clubs Cottenham Renegades beat Welsh team Magor in the final 26 – 0.
2003 Rugby World Cup Winning Head Coach Sir Clive Woodward and Trevor Sokell, President of the Surrey RFU were at the event to congratulate and support all the teams.
Renegades Captain Tom Powell was presented with the Smallest Rugby Club World Cup trophy by La Toya Mason, 2014 Women’s World Rugby Cup Winner.
Sean Phelan the Captain of the host club Racal Decca rugby commented “Being passionate about sport is easy – but it can be easy to forget where that passion started. Bringing together these grass roots teams is a means of celebrating and spot lighting the best aspects of the sport.” He added “We are always looking for bright new talent. However, we are also delighted to get stale old talent too.
